Section 14-3 of the Norwegian Regulations concerning the Performance of Work requires training for employees who may be exposed to noise, including safe working methods and correct use of hearing protection. Action and limit values are set out in chapter 2 of the Norwegian Regulations concerning Action and Limit Values.
The online course provides general theory. The employer must also follow up the organisation’s risk assessment, measurement results, local measures and practical use of hearing protection.

When is hearing protection mandatory?
When technical or administrative measures are insufficient and exposure reaches 85 dB(A) or a peak of 130 dB(C), the employer must ensure that suitable hearing protection is used. Above 80 dB(A), or when the noise is experienced as disturbing, protection must be made available.
Must the employer offer hearing checks?
The employer must offer an appropriate health examination with hearing checks when the risk assessment shows a health risk. At exposure above 80 dB(A) or peak values above 130 dB(C), the employee must undergo a hearing check.
Does the course also cover musicians?
Yes. The course covers noise in industry, construction and stage environments.
When must the training be updated?
At new workplaces, when exposure changes or when new protective equipment is introduced.
