Online Course on Hazardous Tools – Theory Section Angle grinder, miter saw and circular saw, table saw, and nail gun · knowledge test · course certificate for the theory section

The course provides a practical theory component for employees who use work equipment where the risk assessment indicates that its use requires special caution. Participants learn to assess risks, inspect equipment, and choose safe work methods before starting work.

Who needs the training?

The employer must conduct a risk assessment of the work task and the equipment. When equipment requires special caution during use, the employee must have documented safety training before using it. Angle grinders, circular saws, bolt guns, and nail guns are among the examples of such equipment cited by the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority.

Here's what you'll learn

  • risk assessment, instructions for use, and stop criteria
  • Guards, blades, discs, accessories, and pre-use inspection
  • backfire, stalling, sparks, dust, noise, and vibrations
  • electricity, battery, compressed air, order, and a safe working position
  • Personal Protective Equipment, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting

Theory must be put into practice

Documented safety training must include both theoretical and practical components. The employer must provide practical training on relevant equipment, conduct the necessary equipment-specific review, and assess whether the employee can perform the task safely. The user manual is a key reference.

Course Certificate

The course certificate confirms completion of the online course and passing of the knowledge test. It does not, by itself, serve as proof of completion of the full safety training for each machine or model.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tools does the course cover?

The course covers the theory behind, among other things, angle grinders, miter saws, circular saws, table saws, bolt guns, and nail guns. There is a separate course for chainsaws.

Does the online course replace hands-on training?

No. The employer must provide the necessary practical and equipment-specific training and document it.

Does experience matter?

The training can be tailored to prior knowledge, but experience alone is not sufficient reason to skip the required training.

Simple Practices at Your Own Workplace

Following the theoretical portion, equipment-specific practical training is conducted at the participant’s own workplace using the actual tool the participant will be using. A qualified person demonstrates safe handling, startup, use, and shutdown procedures. A practical verification form is provided along with the diploma and course documentation. Once the form is completed and signed, the company has combined the theory and practical training in a single set of documentation.
