The course provides a practical theory component for employees who use work equipment where the risk assessment indicates that its use requires special caution. Participants learn to assess risks, check their equipment, and choose safe work methods before starting work.
Take the theory course online—practice using the tool you work with
The hands-on training can be conducted at the workplace with a qualified mentor, such as a colleague, friend, or business partner. The mentor demonstrates safe handling, startup, operation, and shutdown. You’ll practice using the tool and performing the tasks for which it’s intended. Your employer will document the training and assess your skills before you’re allowed to use the tool independently.
The mentor must have the necessary expertise regarding the tool and the task at hand, but does not need to have taken our course. Follow the user manual and practice using protective equipment, safety features, proper work posture, hazard zones, and troubleshooting. The training applies to tools and tasks that have actually been covered.
Who needs the training?
The employer must conduct a risk assessment of the work task and the equipment. When equipment requires special care during use, the employee must have completed documented safety training before using it. Angle grinders, circular saws, bolt guns, and nail guns are among the examples of such equipment cited by the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority.

The course certificate documents completion of the online course and passing the knowledge test. It does not, by itself, serve as proof of completion of the full safety training for each machine or model.
