Confined space work course – manholes and tanks Estimated time: approx. 1 hour · immediate access · online theory · knowledge test · PDF certificate after passing

Plan entry, monitoring and rescue before work starts

The course provides theoretical training in safely planning and carrying out work in confined spaces, manholes, tanks, shafts, pumping stations, pipelines and similar areas with restricted access or serious atmosphere, entrapment or rescue risks.

Requirements and limitations

Chapter 29 of Norway’s Regulations concerning the Performance of Work applies where flammable goods or hazardous substances are or may have accumulated in tanks, rooms, pipelines or similar spaces. Before work starts, the business must arrange competent inspection and the necessary measurements. When the atmosphere is considered safe, the controller issues an arbeidssertifikat (work certificate). Other confined spaces must be assessed for their actual hazards, and sewage facilities and maritime workplaces may have additional rules.

What you will learn

  • how to assess whether entry can be avoided
  • worksite classification, safe job analysis and entry permit
  • isolation, disconnection and control of hazardous energy
  • oxygen, toxic gases, fire and explosion hazards
  • gas testing, ventilation and continuous monitoring
  • roles, communication, attendant duties and access control
  • rescue planning and measures that prevent additional casualties

Who is the course for?

  • workers who will enter or work near confined spaces
  • attendants, supervisors and HSE personnel
  • operations, water and wastewater, industry, construction and other businesses with similar risks
Automatic course access

Enter the name and email address of each participant when ordering. The participant receives immediate access and an email to create a password. For company purchases without participant details, the seats are placed in the company account so a manager can assign them later.

How the business completes the training

The course certificate documents completed theory and a passed knowledge test. It is not the arbeidssertifikat required by Chapter 29 and does not by itself establish controller competence. It also does not replace local risk assessment, competent inspection and gas testing, practical training with meters, rescue equipment or respiratory protection, a rescue drill, or the employer’s assessment of actual competence.
