  1. Identify hazards: Start by systematically identifying all potential hazards in the workplace. This can be done through site inspections, checklists, safety rounds, discussions with employees, and reviews of past accidents or near-misses. Consider everything from physical hazards (heights, machinery, electricity) to chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards.
  2. Assess the risk: Once the hazards have been identified, you must assess the risks they pose. This is usually done by considering two factors:
    • Probability: How likely is it that the hazard will lead to an accident or injury?
    • Consequence: How severe will the consequences be if an accident occurs (e.g., minor injury, serious injury, death)?
