Confined Space Work Course – Manholes and Tanks
Plan access, monitoring, and rescue before work begins
The course provides theoretical training in the safe planning and execution of work in confined spaces, manholes, tanks, shafts, pumping stations, pipelines, and similar areas with limited access or serious atmospheric, entrapment, or rescue risks.
Take the theory course online—practice local emergency preparedness and equipment use
The employer shall provide practical training tailored to the room, the task, and the equipment. Practice, under competent supervision, using gas detectors, communication systems, appropriate protective equipment, and planned rescue procedures. Clarify roles and document the training before entering the room. The course certificate is a theoretical certificate and does not replace inspector certification or a work certificate where these are required.
The exercises must be safely planned and tailored to the specific rescue method. No one should enter a hazardous atmosphere for the purpose of training. The measurement and issuance of work certificates in accordance with Chapter 29 require a qualified inspector.
Requirements and Scope
Chapter 29 of the Regulations on the Performance of Work applies when flammable goods or hazardous substances have accumulated or may have accumulated in tanks, compartments, pipelines, or similar facilities. Before work begins, the employer must ensure competent inspection and the necessary measurements are taken. Once the work environment is determined to be safe, the inspector issues a work permit. Other enclosed spaces must be assessed for risk based on the actual hazards, and wastewater treatment facilities and maritime workplaces may have their own additional requirements.
Here's what you'll learn

The course certificate documents completion of the theory portion and passing of the knowledge test. It does not, on its own, confer inspector qualifications and is not the work certificate required under Chapter 29. See the practical training section for information on how local training and emergency preparedness are monitored.
