  • Selecting a lift based on the job, height, reach, load, and work area
  • Daily inspection, operating instructions, inspection status, and shutdown in case of a fault
  • Base, support legs, point load, trench edges, covers, and risk of tipping
  • Wind, traffic, live electrical lines, pinching hazards, and falling objects
  • Safe driving, positioning, working from a basket, and securing the work area
  • Emergency stop, emergency descent, communication, ground crew, and rescue plan
  • Fall Protection, Anchoring, and How the Manufacturer's Instructions Influence the Choice

Who needs a lift training course?

The employer must provide the necessary training when employees use work equipment that requires special care. For patient lifts, this normally involves theoretical instruction, practical training for the relevant group or type of lift, and an equipment-specific review of the lift that will actually be used.

Theory first—practice on the right lift

The online course covers the theoretical portion and concludes with a knowledge test. Before the participant can use the equipment independently, the employer must also provide practical and equipment-specific training, conduct a local risk assessment, and evaluate the participant’s actual competence. This ensures that the training can be tailored to the specific lift, workplace, and task the participant will encounter in practice.

Course Certificate

After completing the theory course and passing the knowledge test, the participant receives a digital certificate for the theory portion. The employer documents the practical and equipment-specific training separately.

Working at Heights and Fall Protection

Working with a lift involves working at heights. The need for personal fall protection equipment must be determined based on the lift’s operator’s manual, work methods, and risk assessment. When the work involves a risk of falling or the use of personal fall protection equipment, we also recommend our course on working at heights and fall protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the course cover lift classes 3A and 3B?

The course covers the theory for standard vertical/scissor lifts in Group 3A and boom lifts in Group 3B. Practical training must be adapted to the specific group and lift.

Can I use the lift after just the online course?

The online course covers the theoretical portion. Before the employee is allowed to use the equipment independently, the employer must also document the necessary practical and equipment-specific training and assess the employee's competence.

Do I have to use fall protection in a lift?

This is determined by the lift’s operating instructions, the work method, and the risk assessment. With boom lifts, a short lanyard and proper anchoring are often important for reducing the risk of being thrown from the lift.

How long is the course certificate valid?

There is no general, fixed expiration date. New or updated training may be necessary in the event of new equipment, changes in job duties, lack of practice, or other circumstances that affect one’s competence.

Simple Practices at Your Own Workplace

After the theoretical portion, practical training is conducted on the relevant lift with a qualified instructor who supervises and certifies completion. Participants practice daily inspections, safe operation, emergency functions, and setup. A form for practical and equipment-specific verification is provided along with the diploma and course documentation, and must be signed upon completion of the practical training.
