Course in diisocyanates

From 24 August 2023, the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority requires that everyone who uses diisocyanates receive training in safe use. The training must be documented and applies regardless of frequency of use, type of position, or percentage.
Every year, around 5,000 workers in Europe fall ill with occupational respiratory diseases, including asthma, after being exposed to a type of chemical called diisocyanates or products containing them.

Which products contain diisocyanates?

Diisocyanates are used in several sealants and surface treatment agents. Some examples are:

Construction foam
Glue
Paint
Lacquer
Sealants
Grout
Furniture manufacturing

Various products containing diisocyanates are also used in industry.

Who does the requirement apply to?

The training requirement applies to all employers, employees and self-employed persons who use diisocyanates and diisocyanate-containing mixtures and products with a concentration of 0.1% (weight percent) or more.
