Annual Theoretical Refresher Course in Electrical SafetyEstimated time: 2–3 hours · For work in, operation of, or near electrical installations · Start right away · Knowledge test · Course certificate upon passing

This online course provides the annual theoretical review for individuals who work in or near electrical installations. This course teaches you how to plan your work, assess electrical hazards, choose safe work practices, and respond appropriately in the event of a deviation or electrical accident.

Combine theory with annual first aid training and local drills

Take the theory course online. The employer also provides annual first-aid training that includes practical exercises for electrical accidents and the necessary on-site instruction. The drills can be conducted at the workplace with an instructor who has the necessary qualifications. Training and drills are tailored to the job tasks and the facility and are documented.

Practice safe disconnection, reporting procedures, and relevant first aid. The employer also determines the need for rescue drills and special training for working on live equipment (AUS). The online course does not provide electrical qualifications.

Start after registering, complete the course at your own pace, and receive a digital certificate of completion after passing the knowledge test.

Who needs an FSE course?

This course is relevant for qualified personnel, apprentices, trained individuals, contractors, and others who, through specific work tasks, work with, participate in the operation of, or come into close proximity to electrical installations. The routine use of a computer, vacuum cleaner, coffee maker, or other electrical equipment does not in itself make this safety training necessary. It is the specific work task, the installation, and the electrical risk that determine whether training is required.

What are the FSE Regulations?

FSE is the abbreviation for the regulations governing safety in the work and operation of electrical installations. These regulations are designed to prevent electrical accidents and protect people and property. The training is intended to familiarize employees with the safety rules that apply to their duties.

The Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) explains the regulations and training requirements. The online course provides theoretical training; it does not grant the right to perform electrical work without the necessary qualifications.

Here's what you'll learn

  • Safety requirements, division of responsibilities, and the distinction between safety training and electrical qualifications (FEK)
  • Risk assessment, planning, clarification of roles, and termination criteria
  • Work on de-energized installations, work near live conductors, and work on live conductors
  • Disconnection, protection against accidental reconnection, and verification of de-energized status
  • Arc Flash Hazards, Barriers, Protective Equipment, and Safe Distance
  • Alerting, Rescue, First Aid, and Medical Follow-up in the Event of Electrical Accidents
  • Nonconformities, Documentation, and Site-Specific Follow-Up

How often must the training be renewed?

Training, drills, and instruction must be repeated at least once a year, with no more than 12 months between sessions, and more frequently as needed. The content must be tailored to the organization’s risk profile, work tasks, instructions, and facilities. Use the course certificate as documentation for the theoretical portion, and document first aid training and local drills in the company’s internal control system.

First Aid for Electrical Accidents

The course covers the theory of safe extrication, emergency notification, CPR, and first aid for electrical accidents. In addition, the employer provides annual first aid training and specific practical training on accidents caused by electric shock. Drills and any rescue training must be tailored to the work and the facility. If you would like more comprehensive theory on other workplace accidents, you can First Aid in the Workplace – Theoretical Refresher be a useful supplement.

Course Certificates and Local Follow-Up

The course certificate confirms completion of the theory portion and passing the knowledge test. See the practical section for information on how employers follow up on annual first aid and local training.
