Combine theory with annual first aid training and local drills
Take the FSE theory course online. The employer also provides annual first-aid training that includes practical drills for electrical accidents and the necessary on-site instruction. The drills can be conducted at the workplace with an instructor who has the necessary expertise. Training and drills are tailored to the specific work tasks and the facility and are documented.
Practice safe disconnection, emergency notification, and relevant first aid. The employer also determines the need for rescue drills and special training for working on live electrical equipment (AUS). The online course does not provide electrical qualifications.
FSE covers safety when working on and operating electrical systems. The goal is to prevent electric shocks, arc flash injuries, fires, and other incidents. A well-structured FSE course combines up-to-date theory with the company’s own instructions, practical exercises, and first aid preparedness.

Who needs FSE training?
FSE training is relevant for individuals who work in, participate in the operation of, or come into close contact with electrical installations through specific work tasks. This may include qualified personnel, apprentices, trained individuals, contractors, and certain other professional groups when the company’s risk assessment indicates that FSE training is relevant.
The routine use of electrical equipment such as a computer, vacuum cleaner, or coffee maker does not in itself require an FSE course. It is the nature of the work, the electrical system, and the actual electrical risk that determine this.
What should the annual review include?
- the organization's structure, roles, instructions, and responsibilities
- risk assessment, planning, and selection of work methods
- Work on de-energized installations, work near live electrical equipment, and AUS
- Disconnection, protection against accidental energization, and voltage check
- arc flash hazard, protective equipment, barriers, and safe distance
- stop criteria, deviations, events, and medical follow-up
- First Aid and Rescue in Accidents Caused by Electric Current
How often must the FSE training be completed?
Training, drills, and instruction must be repeated at least once a year, with no more than 12 months between sessions. The annual update should not be an identical re-run every year; it should be based on the organization’s current work tasks, nonconformities, changes to facilities, and lessons learned from the past year.
Is an online course from another institution enough on its own?
Take the FSE course online. The employer also provides annual first-aid training that includes practical exercises for electrical accidents and the necessary on-site instruction. The drills can be conducted at the workplace with an instructor who has the necessary expertise. Training and drills are tailored to the specific job tasks and facility and are documented. The online course does not provide electrical qualifications.
What about the first aid course?
Those who complete an FSE course must also complete a first aid course. The training must include first aid for electrical accidents and relevant practical exercises. The online course covers the theory of safe extrication, emergency notification, CPR, and follow-up, while the employer must provide the practical training.
What does the course certificate attest to?
The course certificate documents completion of the theoretical portion and passing of the knowledge test. It must be included along with the organization’s documentation of on-site instruction, first aid training, drills, and other necessary competencies.
