Forklift Operator Courses T1–T5: Requirements and Course Structure

A forklift operator training course is required for anyone who needs to operate a forklift safely on the job. The requirements depend, among other things, on the type of forklift and whether it has a permanent operator's seat.

Important: Komplett HMS does not currently offer a complete, certified forklift operator training course in its online store. This page is a simple guide to help you choose the right training program.

Does the forklift require certified training?

Forklifts with a permanent operator's compartment are among the types of work equipment that require safety training from a certified training provider. Forklifts without a permanent operator's compartment also require documented training when their use involves a hazard.

The Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority explains the difference between documented, certified, and equipment-specific training in its overview of safety training.

What does a complete course consist of?

  1. Theory of Responsibility, Risk, and Safe Use.
  2. Truck-specific theory for the relevant classes.
  3. Hands-on training with an instructor.
  4. Volume training in accordance with the current training plan.
  5. Practical exam and certificate of proficiency.
  6. Equipment-specific training on the forklift that will be used.

Common Forklift Classes

  • T1: Low-lift truck and pull/push truck

Select only the courses that cover the forklifts and job tasks you will actually be using.

Can a forklift operator course be taken entirely online?

No. A complete certified course includes practical training and an exam. The Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority also states that certified training providers must offer a complete course and be clearly identified in their advertising and documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you teaching an online course on your own?

No, not for a full forklift operator's license. Practical training, a test, and the proper documentation must be included.

Do all types of forklifts require a certified training course?

Not all of them. The requirement depends on the type of truck and the risk involved. However, the employer must ensure that the necessary documented and equipment-specific training is provided.
